Aftercare & Warranty

By purchasing permanent jewelry from Linked by Design, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms and conditions.

The Permanent Jewelry Process & Safety

Permanent jewelry involves welding a small jump ring to create a seamless, clasp-free piece. While the process is quick and safe, it does generate a small spark.

  • A protective barrier is used between your skin and the welding site.

  • Safety glasses are available and recommended. Please do not look directly at the spark.

  • Though injuries are extremely rare, there is a minimal risk of accidental exposure to heat or sparks. By proceeding, you accept this risk.

  • If you have sensitive skin or concerns about the welding process, notify us before your appointment.

Age Policy

  • We do not apply permanent jewelry to children under 6 years old due to growth, safety risks, and choking hazards.

  • Customers under 15 years old must have a parent or legal guardian sign this waiver and be present. We may decline service based on our discretion.

  • Prefer something removable? We offer clasps as an alternative—no waiver required.

What “Permanent” Really Means

Permanent jewelry is designed for continuous wear—but it is not indestructible. While it doesn’t have a clasp, breakage can still occur with excessive force, pulling, or snagging. Linked by Design is not liable for damage resulting from misuse.

Types of Metals & Aftercare

We use high-quality, hypoallergenic metals. Each requires care based on its properties and your lifestyle.

14K Gold-Filled

About: A thick layer of 14K gold bonded to a core metal. It offers the look of solid gold at a lower cost.

Durability: Long-lasting and tarnish-resistant with proper care.

Care Instructions:

  • Avoid harsh chemicals (lotions, perfumes, cleaners).

  • Wipe clean with provided polishing cloth.

  • For deeper cleaning, use the provided dish soap solution and soft-bristle brush, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

Sterling Silver

About: 92.5% pure silver alloyed for strength. A classic and elegant option.

Durability: Prone to tarnishing due to oxidation but fully restorable.

Care Instructions:

  • Use the provided polishing cloth to gently remove tarnish. It contains anti-tarnish agents—do not use on glass or gemstones.

  • If tarnish persists, scrub with the mild soap solution and brush provided.

  • Avoid exposure to chlorine, salt water, sweat, perfumes, self-tanner, sulfates, and other strong chemicals.

  • Still having trouble? Contact us—we’ll help you troubleshoot or restore your piece.

Stainless Steel

Durability: Extremely durable and tarnish-resistant—ideal for active lifestyles.

Care Instructions:

  • For deeper cleaning, use the provided dish soap solution and soft-bristle brush, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

  • Avoid abrasive surfaces to prevent scratching.

Enamel-Coated and Plated

About: Colorful, plated chains with a seasonal lifespan (approx. 6–12 months).

Durability: More delicate than metals—may fade or chip over time.

Care Instructions:

  • Avoid heat, friction, and harsh chemicals.

  • Clean gently with a soft cloth. Do not scrub or soak.

General Care for All Jewelry

  • Polishing Cloths: Use every few weeks. They remove buildup and leave an anti-tarnish barrier. Avoid using on non-metal materials.

  • Soap Solution & Brush: Use as needed for deeper cleaning. Scrub gently, rinse, and dry thoroughly.

  • Avoid chemicals: Remove jewelry or use caution when swimming, cleaning, or applying personal care products.

  • Wear with care: Avoid pulling or catching. Jewelry may stretch or break under stress.

Quality Assurance

We source premium chains from reputable wholesalers. In the rare case of a manufacturing defect (e.g., extreme tarnish that cannot be cleaned), we’ll offer one free chain replacement in exchange for the faulty chain (equal or lesser value). Refunds are not available.

Warranty & Repairs

  • Free re-welds (for life!) on broken or detached chains—proof of purchase required.

  • Clasp additions available for $5.

  • Lost chains within 30 days: We offer a one-time 50% discount on a replacement of equal or lesser value (charms/connectors excluded) with proof of purchase.

  • Lost chains after 30 days: Not covered.

  • Re-welds for chains from other PJ artists available for $10 (this fee is waived with purchase).

Skin Sensitivities & Reactions

Most materials are hypoallergenic, but skin reactions can happen.

  • If irritation (itching, redness, rash) occurs, remove jewelry by cutting at the jump ring.

  • Seek medical advice if needed.

  • Metallic abrasion—dark smudging—may occur with tarnish. Clean thoroughly. If it persists, contact us; we can loosen and re-weld if needed.

Once removed, we’re happy to turn the piece into something new (e.g., add a clasp or modify the design). You may also swap out the chain for another type (such as stainless steel-less prone to reactions). However, no refunds are offered for worn pieces or reactions. Please disclose sensitivities before application.

Removal for Sports, Medical, or Personal Reasons

Need to remove your jewelry temporarily? Simply cut at the jump ring (wire or bolt cutters work best, but scissors can also work). We will re-weld it for free with proof of purchase.

If you change your mind about permanent wear, clasps are available for $5.

Acknowledgment & Signature

Signature required upon in-person services to confirm you’ve read, understood, and agreed to the terms outlined in this waiver, including all safety guidelines, age policies, care instructions, and warranty limitations. Parent or legal guardian must sign for children 15 & younger.
