Understanding the Laser Engraving Process
Engraving jewelry involves more than simply “burning” an image onto metal. It requires two specialized laser wavelengths, microscopic pulse mapping, and detailed adjustment of settings like DPI, power, and frequency. These elements work together to produce high-definition results on small charms and polished metal surfaces
-
Laser engraving uses two precise light wavelengths: infrared (~1064 nm) and blue diode (~455 nm).
Infrared penetrates deeper into metals like stainless steel and gold-filled components, creating stable, permanent marks.
Blue light interacts at the surface, producing fine contrast and crisp detail on polished or PVD-coated jewelry.
Together, they allow both bold marking and delicate artistry.
-
Before engraving, each photo or design is refined to suit reflective jewelry surfaces.
This includes contrast adjustments, shadow cleanup, sharpening, and tonal balancing so every small detail translates clearly.
Even subtle edits impact how features appear at the scale of an 8–12 mm charm
-
Lasers don’t draw continuous lines—they fire microscopic pulses that form the design dot by dot, like pixels.
These pulses create shading, line art, and realistic textures on tiny surfaces, making them ideal for micro-portraits, handwriting, and symbolic designs.
Each dot slightly alters the metal’s tone or texture to build a high-resolution image.
-
Clarity depends on tuning settings such as DPI, power, speed, pulse duration, and frequency.
Different metals react uniquely—stainless steel darkens through oxidation, gold-filled engraves lighter, and PVD coatings require controlled heat to preserve their finish.
With proper calibration, the laser produces crisp, high-definition engraving with the durability required for daily-wear jewelry
